About

Why clients ask for Dr.

Dr. Carrie has practiced optometry for more than 25 years. She's a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry, and previously served as the managing doctor at Spex in Chicago before bringing her practice to Hilton Head. Her work centers on safer, healthier eyecare — particularly when it comes to long-term treatment and prevention of eye disease.

More about Dr

The full story.

She co-manages LASIK, cataract, and other surgical cases — handling the workup before surgery and the follow-up after, so patients have one consistent eyecare relationship through the whole process. She's also the practice's lead on Dry Eye Disease, with a treatment philosophy built around non-toxic, naturally-derived products: supplements, lid hygiene, lubricating drops, and an actual treatment plan rather than a sample bottle.

Specialty contact-lens work is another core area — custom multifocals, hybrids, and sclerals for corneal disease and hard-to-fit eyes. New patients welcome at any age.

Outside the clinic she's a regular on optometry mission trips to Mexico, and partners with By The Hand Club for Kids in Chicago to provide vision services and glasses to kids who'd otherwise go without.

A few questions

In their own words.

Personal frame count?

Five — and a sunglasses collection that I refuse to count.

Prescription frame of choice?

l.a. Eyeworks. Has been for years.

Sunglass setup?

Grey polarized lens, back-surface anti-reflective. The combination is hard to beat for clarity in bright light.

Dry-eye product I recommend most?

We Love Eyes Lid Scrub. It's earned the recommendation.

One eye-health habit worth adopting?

The 20-20-20 rule. Every twenty minutes at a screen, look at something twenty feet away for twenty seconds. It does more for digital eye strain than any drop on the market.

Professional affiliations?

Illinois & American Optometric Associations, Gold Key International Society, Optical Women's Association, Ocular Nutrition & Wellness Society, ThinkAboutYourEyes.com.
