When sunlight bounces off a flat surface — water, sand, a windshield — the reflected light waves align horizontally. That aligned light is glare: the white sheet that hides everything under the water's surface. A polarizing filter is built like microscopic venetian blinds that block horizontally-aligned light while letting everything else through. Result: the glare disappears and you see into the water instead of off it.
Most sunglasses make the world darker. PolarizedPlus2 adds a second job: wavelength management. The lens filters the muddy wavelengths between the colors your eye actually wants, which boosts perceived saturation — reds, greens, and blues all read more vivid, not just dimmer.
